Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a partner to sign up?

No, you don't need a partner to dance or to take classes! We will rotate frequently in classes and highly emphasize the social aspect of swing dancing.

I've never danced before. Is that a problem?

No, you don't need any prior experience to begin taking dance classes! Some of our series classes will expand on topics that have been taught before, and require some previous knowledge of dancing. If you aren't sure whether you'll be able to take a class, please ask one of our instructors and they will be glad to help you find the right class for you.

What clothes/shoes should I wear for classes?

We suggest that you wear anything you are comfortable moving in, but not necessarily athletic clothing. Jeans and a t-shirt will be just fine! For shoes, we recommend flat shoes that offer some sort of support and will stay on your feet, but no rubber soles (they will stick to the floor and potentially put torque on your joints—ouch!). Men's dress shoes with hard leather soles are a common choice, as are keds or some other flat tennis shoe with a sueded leather sole. Ladies' flats would also be appropriate shoes to dance in.
